Oh Baby Africa

Photographing Birth Rites Worldwide

Many times in the tumultuous world, differences of culture, ethnicity and religion are seen as a source of conflict rather than a cause for celebration.  It has never been more important to reflect upon our differences in a positive light, while also connecting to our common ground as humans.  Oh Baby, Celebrating Birth Rites Around the World is a photographic exposition of one of the most significant events that we all share-birth.  Exploring a range of rituals, beliefs and practices surrounding the universal experience of birth, Oh Baby honors both the unity and diversity of being human.
In all their beautiful variety around the world, birth rites usher in hope.   They introduce the potential of the next generation, reinforce family bonds and bring communities together while renewing cultural values.
No place on Earth demonstrates these ideas more clearly than where this photographic project begins, in Africa.
These photographs show us the vulnerability and strength that coexist in the human experience, and remind us how important it is to support and celebrate one another both locally and globally.
